Unique to New Mexico is the “bosque” (Spanish for woodland), the focus for New Mexico Potters and Clay Artists first juried show since the 1990’s.  Hosted in the beautifully spacious gallery at Albuquerque’s  Open Space Visitor Center, “Resonations in Clay – Life on the Bosque” opened on July 7, 2018.  From over 100 entries, 56 pieces were selected by jurors Virgil Ortiz of Cochiti Pueblo, Camilla Trujillo of Espanola, and Kim Eichhorst, PhD, of Albuquerque, who brought distinct Pueblo and Hispanic art and cultural perspectives and bosque ecosystem expertise to the jurying process.

Best in Show was awarded to Cirrelda Snider for “Muskrat Faster Than Me” and Awards of Merit went to Elaine Biery for “Bosque on the Rio,” Alma Quillian for “Sandhill Crane Platter,” and Kim Louise Glidden for “Silvery Minnow Bowl.”  Of special note is Best in Reception Appetizer Award going to Leonard Baca for his special recipe Shrimp Cocktail!  All show pieces are viewable on the Show Catalog

I am so honored to have been chosen by jurors for Best of Show. As fellow potters know, I have been entering tiles for many years – tiles are my passion. Also, my passion is environmental education, and I interpret bosque ecosystem at my job at the NM Museum of Natural History & Science. My first time to ever win award, I take this honor to reflect my long-time practices.
I was under the impression, however, that it was for all 3 tiles together – this is what was conveyed to me by the jurors that day as I spoke with them. Best of Show would go to all 3 of my tiles together – Beaver Whacks at Dusk, Vultures’ Spring Return, Muskrat Faster Than Me.

      Cirrelda,

All three tiles together was my understanding as well at the opening, but when Leonard/Kim communicated to me about what to put on the website, they said just the one tile. I will try to get that modified the next time I update the website.
