Contemporary Clay Fair Sprouts Spring Sales!!!
by Kim Louise Glidden
Before moving to New Mexico in 2017, I had participated for many years in Denver Potters Association’s Spring and Holiday Sales, so this was my first time as an artist in Contemporary Clay Fair’s Spring Sale held April 14 and 15. What a well-organized sale, delightful group of artists, and worthwhile investment of time selling my work in this challenging art market! As the following grid of artists’ displays shows, there was a wide variety of functional and decorative work, as well as various clay-making techniques, surfaces, and firing methods.
This is CCF’s 14th year holding Spring and Fall cooperative fair/exhibition sales in Santa Fe showcasing regional ceramic art. Applications are completed online to be considered for selection by the organization’s Steering Committee. Accepted artists are required to pay an entry fee, help with general show set-up and take-down, are assigned several jobs during the show, and must be present during the entire sale. Held indoors at the Santa Fe Woman’s Club, artists are provided tables or 3-foot by 6-foot spaces for displaying work. Admission is free and complimentary refreshments are provided by the approximately 30 participating artists. Artists are responsible for reporting and paying gross receipts tax and retain 95 percent of gross sales, with CCF retaining 5 percent for bank fee processing and venue rental.
